      ESDC of Korea made MOU with the Economic and Social Council of Greece.

    • December 4

      ESDC of Korea held the 1st meeting of the Implementation Committee for the Tripartite Agreement on Structural Reforms of the Labor Market.

      ESDC of Korea established the Youth Employment Committee as a follow-up measure of the Tripartite Agreement on Structural Reforms of the Labor Market.

      Forum of Korea-EU FTA as a Co-chair of the Civil Society Forum.

      Chairman Choi, Jong-tae participated in the AICESIS General Assembly held in Rio, Brazil.
      Kang, Sung-jin, professor of Korea University presented “Further Steps to Achieve Sustainable
      Development through Green Economy” during the General Assembly as Rapporteur-General
      of the AICESIS working group. The General Assembly took place during the United Nations
      Conference on Sustainable Development (RIO+20).

    • June 8

      ESDC hosted the 2nd meeting of Domestic Advisory Group of Korea-EU FTA.

    • May 4

      ESDC hosted the 1st Forum to reinforce the network of regional committees which are composed of local labor unions, employers federations, civic groups and local governments.

    • April 25

      Delegates of labor unions and employers federation of Eastern European countries including Czech, Poland and Hungary visited to ESDC in order to understand social dialogue systems in Korea.

    • April 12

      ESDC, as the Secretariat of Domestic Advisory Group and Civil Society Forum of Korea-EU FTA, held the 1st meeting of Domestic Advisory Group.

      The Committee on Advancement of Industrial Accident Prevention System of ESDC was established.

      Mr. Choi, Jong-tae, Chairman of ESDC participated in the international conference hosted by the National Economic and Social Advisory Council of Thailand(NESAC) in order to make a key note speech on the economic growth and human resources development of Korea.

      In commemoration of the 14th Anniversary of its establishment, ESDC hosted a seminar entitled with “measures to develop social dialogue in the transitional period”.

    • December 28

      The 76th session of the Plenary Committee which was held at ESDC on December 28,
      decided to establish the four committees by agenda. In addition to adoption of
      establishment of the four committees, the Plenary Committee resolved the draft plan on the
      operation of ESDC in 2012.

    • December 7

      The 82nd session of the Standing Committee of ESDC was held, and members agreed to
      create new committees on win-win for all generations, stronger social safety net and
      reduction of working hours.

      ESDC Vice-Chairman Eom, Hyun-taek participated in the Board Meeting of AICESIS.

    • November 25

      An experts'' discussion was held to ''work out visions for new industrial relations beyond the
      paradigms of 1987 and 1997’.

    • November 24

      The advisory group was organized within ESDC to manage the Secretariat of the Korea-EU
      FTA Civil Society Forum.

    • October 27

      ESDC held a panel discussion on ''the application of minimum wage to surveillance or
      security workers''.

    • August 4

      The Committee on Improvement of Working Hours for Exceptional Industries was set up
      within ESDC.

    • July 27

      The delegations of the Legislative Council and the Labor Department of Hong Kong visited
      ESDC for the purpose of research on the system on reduction of working hours and solutions
      to improve the practice of long working hours in Korea.

    • July 22

      ESDC Chairman Choi, Jong-tae participated in the AICESIS General Assembly held in Rome,
      Italy. ESDC was re-elected as a member of the Board of AICESIS (International Association of
      Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions) at the General Assembly.
      In addition, ESDC was also appointed to be the Rapporteur-General responsible for the AICESIS
      working group to draw up the "environmental report" to the next General Assembly which is to be
      held in Brazil in June 2012 along with the United Nations Conference on Sustainable
      Development (RIO+20).

      The 72nd Plenary Committee session adopted the Tripartite Agreements which had been
      drafted by the Committee on Employment Measures for Baby-boom Generation and the

      Economic and Social Development Commission(ESDC) and the Ministry of Employment and
      Labor hosted the "Panel discussion to protect and support part-timers"

      The Economic and Social Development Commission hosted the 1st meeting of the labor-
      related academic elders'' advisory group to find solutions toward the advanced labor and
      management.

      Mr. Choi, Jong-tae, Chairman of the Economic and Social Development Commission made a
      special lecture on human resources development strategy at the Development Strategy
      Institute(DSI) of the Ministry of Planning and Investment(MPI), in Hanoi, Vietnam.

      Mr. Lee, Ki-kweon, a former Secretary to the President for Employment and Industrial
      Relations, was inaugurated as a new Vice-Chairman of the Economic and Social
      Development Commission.

    • March 8

      The delegation of the National Economic and Social Advisory Council(NESAC) of Thailand,
      which was led by Mr.Okas Teparagul, Chairman of NESAC made an official visit to discuss
      about hosting the 2nd Asia Social Dialogue Forum in Thailand in 2012 and enhancing
      relations between the two organizations.

      The Economic and Social Development Commission held the 78th Standing Committee to
      decide the establishment of the Committee on Advancement of the Labor Market.

      Mr. Song, Young-jung, Vice-Chairman of ESDC participated in the AICESIS Board Meeting
      which was held in Tunis, Tunisia from December 2 to 3 2010.

    • November 12

      The General-Secretary of International Trade Union Confederation(ITUC) and General
      Secretary of OECD Trade Union Advisory Committee(TUAC) who chaired G20 Trade Unions
      Summit in Seoul, officially visited to ESDC on November 12 2010.

      Mr. Choi, Jong-tae, an emeritus professor of the Seoul National University was inaugurated
      as the 10th Chairman of the Economic and Social Development Commission

      The Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) with the Council of Social and Economic Development of the Federative Republic of Brazil was reached.

    • September 15

      - The KTC held the 2006 IAESCSI General Assembly at the Grand Hilton Seoul Hotel in Seoul.
      - About 130 delegates containing 32 member nations of the International Associations of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions(IAESCSI) such as China, France, Italy ,Netherlands, Brazil and Russia etc and Department of Economic and Social Affairs of United Nations(UN DESA) and International Labor Organization(ILO) participated in the Assembly and discussed with two main themes which read "New international resources for development and the fight against poverty" and "Creation of decent and productive jobs and its impact on the sustainable development".

      Chairperson Kim, Keum-soo made an official visit to CES of France, SER of the Netherlands and ILO from 29th February through 9th March. The MOD with CES was reached.

      The Act on Establishment and Operation of the Tripartite Commission (Legislation No. 5,990) was enacted and promulgated.

      The Second-Phase Tripartite Commission was launched (Chairperson: Mr. Kim, One-ki).

    • March 28

      The Regulations on Tripartite Commission were enacted as the Presidential Decree.

    • February 6

      The Commission adopted the Social Agreement for Overcoming the Economic Crisis. 90 new items were agreed and adopted.

    • January 15

      The First-Phase Tripartite Commission was established (Chairperson: Mr. Han, Kwang-ok).

      Then President-elect Kim, Dae Jung proposed the introduction of a tripartite consultation mechanism to overcome the economic crisis.
